Keynote Speaker - Lt. Governor Sylvia Luke

Sylvia Luke is Hawaiʻi’s 16th Lieutenant Governor, the third woman to hold the office, and the highest-ranking Korean American in a U.S. statewide position. She previously served as a Hawaiʻi State Representative with over a decade as Finance Chair. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Sylvia immigrated to Honolulu at nine, attending K-12 public schools. She holds degrees from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and the University of San Francisco School of Law. As lieutenant governor, she leads Ready Keiki, the state’s plan to increase available preschool seats for Hawaiʻi’s three- and four-year-olds, and Connect Kākou, an initiative to expand access to high-speed, affordable internet. Sylvia is a mom, dog mom, wife, and attorney.


OWL Annual Meeting Emcee, Diane Ako

Diane Ako has spent most of her adult life in a TV newsroom. An award-winning journalist, she anchors and reports for Honolulu's ABC affiliate, KITV Island News. She previously worked at KHON and KHNL. She's also worked on tv in California, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico.

Her reporting garnered 11 first place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Hawaii Chapter, and four Emmy nominations from the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Outside of news, Ako spent five years in public relations: four years as p.r. director/ spokeswoman for luxury resort Halekulani and boutique hotel Waikiki Parc (now Halepuna), one year as a business owner of her own p.r. firm.

She was a community affairs radio show host in 2014 and 2015 for Pacific Media Group. Her show, “Hawaii Matters,” brought in newsmakers to talk about community issues.

Ako has been a freelance writer for many local publications, most recently Nella Media Group (NMG), a Hawaii publisher for about 60 corporate and consumer magazines. Her writing for these various outlets has won journalism awards.

The Kamehameha Schools alumna earned a B.A. in Communications from Menlo College and an M.A. in Political Science from University of Hawaii at Manoa.

In her personal life, she is a single mother of a daughter, loves cats, and teaches yoga.


OWL Membership Information

Annual membership dues for Jan. through Dec. 2025 are $325. An early bird rate of $305 for the year is available if paid by December 15, 2024. Your dues include access to five enriching luncheons with inspiring keynote speakers at the Pacific Club, along with valuable networking opportunities. The last lunch of the season, our Annual Meeting and our 2x yearly Networking “Mixers’ are not included in this amount.

Membership luncheons are generally held on the second Monday of every other month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Luncheons and other membership benefits are non-transferable.

We are always looking to grow our membership, so please continue to bring guests and encourage friends to join OWL!
